Tabata Workout Sure To Make You Sweat!

Howdy friends, In need of a quick drench? I have the perfect Tabata workout for you. Monday morning I was going to get up and run before work. My alarm went off and the thought of getting out of bed was heartbreaking, so I slept for the extra hour before work. I feel like everyone is all about making Monday their bitch, but I like to take it easy on Monday. What's the big rush? We have the whole week. If I can enjoy just a little more sleep right after the weekend, I'll totally take advantage. I'd rather start the week on a well-rested and caffeinated note than being bombarded by my alarm before 6 a.m. Okay enough ranting...

So I got home from work on Monday afternoon and I wanted to do SOMETHING, but I don't have a gym membership near my apartment yet. I took my jump rope to a park by my apartment and decided to do a quick, heart pumping Tabata workout!

Who needs a gym membership when you have nature?

I wasn't feeling it at first, but immediately got super energized after the first tabata set because I realized how quickly it flew by.

How this works is you set a timer for 8 rounds of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest. Complete each exercise couple back-to-back as a superset, so that you perform both exercises in each set 4 times each. It goes QUICK and it's hard, but knowing that you literally only have 20 seconds of work at a time rocks. You can do anything for 20 seconds!! (For anyone who watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt...)

Kimmy Schmidt - You can do anything for 10 seconds! Here's a few of the weirdly named exercises demonstrated:

Windmill jumps (Just add in a hop before switching sides)

Decline plank knee-ins

Burpee box jumps

Proof of how much you might sweat...hair was glued to my head (ew.)

ENJOY!!

Recent Eats + Weekly Workouts

Hello! Happy hump day :) Just wanted to check in before I head to work! Wednesdays are always a nice reminder that the weekend is only two days away. It's also nice because it means that most of my long days are over. On Tuesdays after work I head down to a City Fitness gym on the other side of the city to workout before I teach from 7-8. I don't get home until about 9:30 because the trains run every hour and I catch it at 8:52. Womp long day. But I can't complain because I do get paid to workout and do what I love so I'm very lucky for that!

Monday was also a long day and I couldn't wait to get home and relax. Relaxing turned to cooking in the kitchen for about an hour and a half, although cooking is very therapeutic to me.

Dinner was roasted veggies with sautéed ground beef and kale. Topped with Parmesan cheese and sriracha (always sriracha.) ground beef and roasted veggies I also whipped up my lunch for yesterday and today. A big hearty salad that I add chicken to at work. It has Trader Joe's sweet leaf lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, feta cheese, chick peas and fresh dill. lunch saladAlong with this salad, I bring many snacks. I like to nosh all day so I make sure I have plenty of healthy snacks ready to go. I brought some leftover ground beef & veggies, an apple and these protein balls (except made a new batch with peanut butter instead of almond butter and they're way better!)

Last week I managed to sneak in some quick workouts despite it being a busy week (who am I kidding, that's every week.)

Sunday - 4.35 mile run after my family left. This was a good one!

Monday - REST :)

Tuesday - This workout from peanutbutterrunner.com

Wednesday - HUMID 3 mile run. This one sucked a little.

Thursday - 3x15 reps of the following exercises: Dumbbell deadlift + squat jump, lunge with pulse (15 each side), single arm dumbbell row (15 each side), pullover with sit-up, heel tap bicycle crunches on bench, row 2 minutes.

Friday - 5x10 reps of the following exercises: Band assisted pull-ups, lunge jumps (10 each side,) deadlifts, thrusters, push-ups, burpee box jumps. This one was great and can be done in under an hour!

Saturday - REST :)

Sunday - 5 mile run. This was great except for the last mile when my earphones stopped working.

What's your favorite way to sweat?

Vanilla Almond Butter Protein Balls + A Terrific Tuesday

Good morning! I have a recipe to share with you along with some more weekend pics and a workout. Last night I came home from work and felt inspired to make a quick grab and go snack. I eyeballed a lot of this recipe so these are very rough measurements!

proteinballsIngredients:

  • 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp rolled oats
  • Roughly 1 cup almond butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp coconut flakes
  • Water - as needed for consistency

Directions:

  • Mix everything together besides water
  • Add in water until mixture can easily be rolled into balls without falling apart

This is a super easy snack to make to have on hand and perfect for before or after a workout. I ate one after my early morning workout this morning. I tried a new gym only a couple blocks away from our new apartment. I wasn't feeling very creative in making up my own workout so I did this workout from one of my favorite bloggers, Jen at peanutbutterrunner.com. I switched the chest flies to pushups and added in 45 seconds of a cardio exercise after each round (burpees, skaters and jumping jacks.)

When I can get myself out of bed real early, I like to workout before hopping on the train to work because it gives me the freedom to come home and relax after work.

Before I go I wanted to share a couple more photos from last weekend. On Sunday we had brunch at Toast and it was delicious! I ordered the smoked salmon egg toasts. Such a perfect brunch meal. Michael ordered banana french toast and an egg sandwich. His french toast was definitely the best.
